Bachelor of Science in Health Science - Radiation Therapy

The mission of the Radiation Therapy program is to provide a comprehensive education in order to prepare students to become radiation therapists that provide quality patient care and actively participate in the profession and pursue life-long learning. The program is designed for current RT’s who wish to earn specialization in this area. 

Radiation therapists operate many kinds of equipment including high-energy linear accelerators with electron capabilities, simulators, and treatment planning equipment. The therapist delivers radiation treatments to affected parts of the body using this highly specialized equipment, while protecting the remaining part of the body from radiation with absolute accuracy. Therapists also monitor patient side effects to radiation that may include nausea, hair loss, and skin irritation. They also must maintain accurate documentation at all times. 


The mission of the Radiation Therapy program is to provide a comprehensive education in order to prepare students to become entry-level radiation therapists that provide quality patient care and actively participate in the profession and pursue life-long learning. The program is designed for current RT’s who wish to earn specialization in this area. 

Program Goals:
· To train competent, efficient, and effective radiation therapists;
· To support the development of diverse skills to participate in current & emerging technologies;
· To encourage student scholarly and professional activities after graduation;
· To promote and enhance student development of integrative, critical thinking, and written, verbal and computer-based communication skills.

The South College Bachelor of Science in Health Science with Concentration in Radiation Therapy is designed for those students who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree and this specialization in the field of imaging sciences. Upon successful completion and graduation of the program, the graduate will apply to sit for the certification examination in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
