Graduated from University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1975 and began work with the Veterans Administration in New York and Wisconsin. He obtained a Commission from the United States Public Health Service in 1977. During his career, he was assigned to the Indian Health Service, Food and Drug Administration, Office of the Surgeon General, Health Resource Services Administration, Agency for Healthcare and Research, and National Cancer Institutes. In addition, he served with both the NIH and PHS Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT) being deployed multiple times during National disasters. He retired in 2005 after serving over 27 years with the Rank of Captain/06. In 1996 he obtained a PharmD from the University of Maryland, College of Pharmacy.
Since retirement from active duty he has worked as a part time Pharmacist at local hospitals, volunteer clinics, and served as President of several civic organizations. Recently he has taught various courses at Chattanooga State College and Chattanooga College in Tennessee. He continues to volunteer with the Tennessee (DMAT) and is active in his local church.
