We’ve all experienced those moments of doubt throughout our college career, whether it’s not feeling like you can do something or not believing in yourself. The key to overcoming doubt is to practice positive thinking – but it’s easier said than done. We’ve put together some helpful tips to help you overcome doubt and be a confident student or professional.

Say no to negative self-criticism

Don’t listen to those voices in your head that tell you you’re not good enough, or you can’t do it. When those thoughts occur, flip them into positive thoughts. This takes practice, but can help you to become more confident and more positive. A positive outlook on the world can change everything around you.

Find a hobby

Finding something you enjoy doing is another way to overcome doubt and instill confidence in yourself. Start an exercise or running routine during the week to help relieve stress and make you feel better. Additionally, going for a hike or just walking along a greenway can help clear your mind and help you think about things in a different way. A hobby is a great way to try something you’ve never done before and get outside your comfort zone.

Cross-off goals

Making long-term and short-term goals can drastically help you overcome doubt. The practice of crossing off goals can be a great source of happiness and boost your confidence. Short-term goals can help you reach the long-term goals you set. Accomplishing the short-term goals will build your confidence and make those long-term goals easier.

Take care of yourself

This is arguably the most important tip for overcoming doubt and becoming confident: take care of yourself. Observe your daily habits and see if you can find ways to give yourself some love or improve upon any of your habits. Be sure to get the right amount of sleep; sleep effects how we feel and how productive we are throughout the day. Healthy eating habits will also have a positive effect on our mind and how we feel. And don’t forget to carve out some “you” time at least once a day!
